You Better Watch Out While the holidays are the perfect time to be around those you love, it is also prime time for scammers to catch you in a scheme.
Here are some of the top scams to watch out for this year.
| 1. | "Free" gift cards — Thieves send out fake emails requesting personal information with promises of providing a gift card to popular businesses like Starbucks or Target. | | 2. | Social media gift exchanges — You purchase a gift card, and in doing so expect one in return. Scammers encourage you to share your personal information, much like the gift card scam. | | 3. | Amazon confirmation email scam — Scammers are sending out emails that appear to be a confirmation of an Amazon purchase, or they'll ask for more information to complete a purchase. |
In addition to being aware of common scams, be sure to use caution to protect yourself — and your wallet. Keep these tips in mind when shopping online.
| • | Don't click any suspicious links or attachments in emails, on websites, or on social media. | | • | Check each website's URL to make sure it's legitimate and secure. | | • | Never wire money directly to a seller and avoid paying for items with pre-paid gift cards. | | • | Always get tracking numbers for items you buy online, so you can follow the delivery process. |

And, remember — if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Happy Holidays and best wishes for a prosperous new year! |
